Compeer is an internationally
recognized program. A Compeer is a volunteer that becomes a friend to someone
with a mental illness. Research has shown that through the compeer program
a "friend" has a much higher success rate of recovery than without having
a compeer. Most improvements are noticed in the improvements of self-esteem
and socialization.
In order to become a Compeer, one must submit an application along with
references, attend a 3 hour long workshop presided by a licensed psychiatrist
and attend volunteer appreciation meetings.
Anyone can be a Compeer! You do not need a college degree - just a warm
caring heart. If you are interested in becoming a Compeer, please contact
the office at 752-2689 or email mhatusc@dbtech.net.
